Black Friday SSD deals 2024: early SSD discounts available now
Early Black Friday SSD deals are bringing back some prices of yesteryear, and we're here to guide you through them.
Black Friday SSD deals are closer than ever. Already we've seen some of the very best 4TB drives come down in price to new levels, so let's hope that could be an indication of what's to come. Even if you aren't looking for massively futureproofed 4TB options, you'll usually be able to find some 1TB NVMe options, or an external drive going cheap during Black Friday.
Discounts on storage devices like the best SSDs for gaming have always gone hand in hand with big deals events like Black Friday. External hard drives are always a staple of online sales, and already we're seeing price slashes for drives like the SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD Samsung T9 2TB variant before Black Friday has even begun. Often that continues into gaming SSDs, like the Seagate limited edition Star Wars FireCuda 1TB internal SSD, which has returned for another price cut this year. External USB SSDs and of course the SATAS and HDDs are also still viable on the cheap. Black Friday gaming deals only come around once a year, and they're worth preparing for so you can make the most of them.
Black Friday PS5 SSD deals are also worth considering since sometimes they can suit PC players too. Not all motherboards are built the same, and the M.2 bays you might want to use don't always get covered by a heatsink panel. Buying something with an integrated heatsink can save you fuss, but equally, they can hike up the costs. For that reason, PS5 owners might be here to get some better value. Buying a heatsink separately can save you a lot on modern drives, so they're worth considering. Of course, external SSD deals will also be covered here, so read on to find out more about Black Friday's storage offers.

What to expect from Black Friday SSD deals 2024
SSDs were so cheap for so long, and then October of 2023 hit us like a tonne of bricks. Ever since, SSDs have gone back up to more expensive prices, and even 1TB NVMe drives have been hard to find for under $90. This has been the case throughout 2024, which has made deals painful to look at for the most part. It's hard to view $90 as a great price to buy when previously, $60 could get you a top-drawer 1TB drive easily.
Even when Prime Day came around, the cheapest I found SSDs dropping to was around $70, which was admittedly a lot better, but this still wasn't a widely spread price across the board.
For that reason, I'm hopeful that Black Friday will be the point at which manufacturers decide to get rid of their wares for another year, and try to meet the sales expectations they probably had based on the previous 12 months. This could mean super low prices for 1TB sticks, but the true value may sit with 2TB drives.
If you can budget for around $120, the 2TB zone is for you. That's fully where I expect to see the larger SSDs fall under, and if you can get one for around the $100 mark, you're seriously winning.

Of course, when you add an integrated heatsink to the mix, prices start to go up even further. If you're buying for a gaming PC, try to fill one of the M.2 slots on your motherboard that has a heatsink panel covering it. If you're buying for PS5, look at the cost of some separated heatsinks, because they seldom cost more than $20, and they might save you some cash when it comes to buying more storage during Black Friday.
Black Friday SSD deals 2023 - FAQs
When will Black Friday SSD deals start?
Black Friday SSD deals will officially land on November 29 this year, right at the end of the month. This means there's less than a month between this year's big winter sale and Christmas day - so it'll be a great time to shop for Christmas presents. Still, we'd recommend keeping an eye out for deals between October and November, since early offers start sooner every year, and sometimes they can present you with even better prices.
Where will the best SSD deals be?
If you're looking for a solid-state drive during these sales periods then you'll find that all major tech retailers are offering amazing discounts on them during these sales periods.

What happened to SSD prices?
SSD made its move into storage dominance during the pandemic years, which, as we're sure you'll remember, were ridden with supply chain issues and chip shortages the world over. Since SSDs have been so highly sought after over the past few years, and manufacturers had to think about extra costs to keep their workers safe amidst the pandemic, as well as recover from it, prices remained high.
In September of 2022, however, it was revealed that sales had been declining in the HDD and SSD spaces. Both Seagate and Western Digital, two of the biggest names in the storage market, revealed that it would be unlikely for them to reach their projected revenue figures by the end of 2022.
When you combine the high manufacturing costs of the pandemic age with 2022's cost of living squeezes, you get a stagnation of the market. In short, it got easier to buy an SSD, but people either didn't have the money to buy one or no longer needed them as desperately.
With no choice but to slash prices to offset reduced demand, SSD manufacturers dramatically reduced costs throughout 2023. It was only toward the end of the year we saw prices go back up, right as the new generations of Gen 5 devices were making their way onto the shelves more widely.
What types of Solid State Drives are there?
- SATA SSD: This style of solid-state drive uses the same 2.5-inch form-factor as any standard HDD, meaning they normally fit in any pre-existing drive bays that your PC case may have. The trade-off, however, is that, while cheaper, they're not as quick as some of the newer types on the market. They're also chunkier than other SSD types, so keep that in mind too.
- External SSD: As the name may imply, instead of being slotted inside your machine, they are connected externally via USB 3.0 or USB-C depending on read and write speeds. These days, USB-C is more commonplace.
- PCIe/NVMe/M.2: This is the newest form of SSD storage that's used on everything from game consoles to gaming desktops. These SSDs are famed not only for their faster-than-ever speeds but for ultra-small form-factors and ease of use. Usually, they can just be screwed into place (usually with a heatsink). In addition, they tend to have longer lifespans and a lower risk of mechanical fault. Having said that, they're the more expensive option, and they can benefit from working with heatsinks to help them run as efficiently as possible.

Sabrent Rocket 1TB SSD | $79.99 $59.99 at Amazon
Save $20 - This is nowhere near the type of top performer I'd like to recommend, but I'm a bit underwhelmed by the prices of 1TB drives in the week before Black Friday. Everything seems to have climbed back up, but the reason I'm throwing Sabrent's 2019 option in the star pile at the moment is because this is the price a 1TB drive should be for Black Friday.
Buy it if:
✅ You want a reliable 1TB drive
✅ You want value for money
Don't buy it if:
❌ You want the last word in speed.
Crucial T700 1TB Gen 5 SSD | $199.99 $159.99 at Amazon
Save $40 - I'm in the middle of testing the first few gen 5 SSDs that are widely available. Given they're still brand new, I'm surprised to see them on offer at all. If you want the very best there is, and you have a compatible system, grab a Gen 5 drive on the cheap.
Buy it if:
✅ You have a Gen 5 M.2 port on your motherboard
✅ You have a serious heatsink to accompany it
Don't buy it if:
❌ Your system isn't compatible
Seagate FireCuda 2TB Star Wars Lightsaber Limited Edition | $239.99 $199.99 at Best Buy
Save $40 - I'm also surprised to see the Star Wars Limited Edition Seagate FireCuda's back in stock, let alone cheaper. These are sure to fly off the shelves, so if you're keen on one, don't wait around.
Buy it if:
✅ You have a motherboard slot large enough to house the heatsink
✅ You're a Star Wars fan
Don't buy it if:
❌ You don't have the appropriate motherboard header for the drive's lighting
WD Black SN770 1TB | $69.99 $64.99 at Newegg
Save $10 - If it's 1TB of cheap and cheerful storage, the slightly older SN770 has your back. This is still a very reliable SSD that'll give you excellent loading times in games. You can usually find all sizes of this one on sale, but 1TB offers the best value for money just now.
Buy it if:
✅ You don't mind a slightly older Gen 4 drive
✅ You are on a budget
Don't buy it if:
❌ You want the fastest sequential speeds in the category.
WD Black SN850X 1TB | $129.99 $79.99 at Amazon
Save $50 - One of the very best all-around SSDs for gaming on the market is an insanely reasonable price. This has jumped up - we've actually seen it as low as $64, and over Black Friday I'd expect this to come down even lower - probably by another $10, but even at this price, so it might be worth waiting for a better deal. This is its average price these days - the heatsink model can be found on sale at Amazon, but it's a touch more expensive.
Buy it if:
✅ You want one of the best 1TB drives on the market
✅ You want something for PS5 or PC
Don't buy it if:
❌ You want something even cheaper
Seagate FireCuda 530 1TB | $117 $78.55 at Amazon
Save $39 - Certainly one of the most popular SSDs on the market, the Seagate Firecuda 530 1TB is currently on offer for the first time in a while. This gets you one of the fastest Gen 4 NVMe drives available for under $80. We'd like to see it a bit lower, but since we haven't seen it in stock or on sale very often lately, this is worth knowing about.
Buy it if:
✅ You want a top-notch Gen 4 drive
✅ You only need 1TB
Don't buy it if:
❌ You need a heatsink
Lexar SL200 1TB Portable SSD | $67.99 $59.99 at Amazon
Save $8- As above, the prices on 1TB drives have been a little high so far this week, but you can get the same storage as the Sabrent with this Lexar offering, all at the same price. Again, this is the kind of price we're hoping to see a bit more of later in the week, but if you're keen to dive in now, then this is a solid option. It's external, rather than internal, so it's even got a little extra flexibility.
Buy it if:
✅ You like to take games on the go
✅ You don't want to install an internal drive
Don't buy it if:
❌ You want an internal drive, or don't want to transfer games back to an internal drive
Samsung 990 Pro Heatsink 1TB | $169.99 $79.99 at Amazon
Save $90 - There's more than 50% of this 990 SSD with better speeds, power efficiency, and performance than the 980 currently hitting a similar Black Friday price. The only downside is this doesn't have a heatsink but, considering you can pick one of these up for under $10 if you need one, that means this is still a great deal.
Buy it if:
✅ You want the latest SSD option
✅ You want 50% faster speeds than the 980
Don't buy it if:
❌ You want a heatsink included
Samsung 980 Pro Heatsink 1TB | $119.99 $79.99 at Best Buy
Save $40 - If you want an SSD with a heatsink already attached, this Samsung 980 pro with a $40 saving is well worth considering. This drive's price has dropped since the 990 Pro came out, but it's still one of the best-value SSDs for gaming on the market, and will give your PC great gen 4 SSDs.
Buy it if:
✅ You want a heatsink pre-attached
✅ You want a great value SSD for PC
Don't buy it if:
❌ You'd rather have the newer 990 Pro
WD Black SN770M 1TB | $129.99 $79.99 at Best Buy
Save $50 - Considering this drive is brand new, a Black Friday deal is great to see. If you have one of the best handheld gaming PCs like a Steam Deck or Asus Rog Ally, this lovely mini NVMe SSD will help boost its storage.
Buy it if:
✅ You want 1TB of extra room for handheld gaming
✅ You have a handheld gaming PC
Don't buy it if:
❌ You're shopping for any other platform
Crucial T700 1TB Gen 5 SSD | $199.99 $159.99 at Amazon
Save $40 - I'm honestly a bit shocked to see a Gen 5 SSD like this be on sale before Black Friday. This may be a layover from Prime Day that I missed, but this is quoted as being one of the best commercial SSDs on the market, so to see it dropped by a chunky $40 for the first time is surprising. Whether the extra speed offsets the price for 1TB, I'll let you decide.
Buy it if:
✅ You have a Gen 5 M.2 port on your motherboard
✅ You have a serious heatsink to accompany it
Don't buy it if:
❌ Your system isn't compatible
WD Black P40 SSD 1TB | $179.99 $99.99 at Best Buy

Buy it if:
✅ You're looking for some external gaming storage
✅ You want one of the best external SSDs out there
✅ You want RGB to lighten things up
Don't buy it if:
❌ You're not going to use those big speeds
Samsung T7 Shield External SSD 2TB | $159.99 $119.99 at Best Buy
Save $40 - If it's an external SSD you seek, the T7 Shield is a good one to buy this deals season. The T9 has just been released, so it's likely we'll see this cheaper later in the month, but even so, this is on par with what you'd pay for an internal 2TB drive from Samsung, and annoyingly it doesn't get a lot better than that.
Buy it if:
✅ You want decent external SSD speeds
✅ You want something physically durable
Don't buy it if:
❌ You can afford the newer T9
Samsung 990 Pro 2TB | $158.99 $134.99 at Amazon
Save $24 - Now that the gargantuan 4TB has been released, I was hoping the 2TB model of the 990 Pro would start seeing more discounts. A good deal price for a 2TB gen 4 drive is anywhere between $110-150 - so this is worth jumping on.
Buy it if:
✅ You want 2TB of space
✅ You want minimal loading and transfer times
Don't buy it if:
❌ You need an integrated heatsink
Samsung T9 External SSD 2TB | $239.99 $149.99 at Amazon
Save $90 - This a brand new drive so it's surprising (and great) to see it drop in price already. Samsung is a reliable brand so to get a discount on one of its fastest, newest drives, and with 2TB of storage, is a great deal.
Buy it if:
✅ You want the latest drive going
✅ You want a high-speed external SSD
Don't buy it if:
❌ You don't need the absolute latest thing
Today's best SSD deals in the UK
Crucial P5 Plus 1TB | £128.99 £80.52 at Amazon
Save £48.47 - This has been way cheaper so far this week - down an extra £50. As it stands, it's pretty pricey for a 1TB offering, and I'd suggesting waiting to see if it hits that low point again. The speeds you'll get are pretty decent, but getting a 1TB drive for under £60 out with official deals events is pretty great no matter the speeds.
Buy it if:
✅ You don't need the fastest speeds
✅ You want a cheap but reliable 1TB drive
Don't buy it if:
❌ You want a top performer
WD Black SN770 1TB | £69.99 £50.99 at Amazon
Save £19 - If it's 1TB of cheap and cheerful storage, the slightly older SN770 is here for you. This is still a very reliable SSD that'll give you excellent loading times. You can usually find all sizes of this one on sale, and even though this listing from Amazon isn't technically discounted, it is cheaper than competing retailers who say it's "on sale" at higher prices than this. Such is the world of SSD prices at the moment.
Buy it if:
✅ You don't mind a slightly older gen 4 drive
✅ You are on a budget
Don't buy it if:
❌ You want the fastest sequential speeds in the category.
Samsung 980 Pro 2TB | £169 £137.98 at Currys
Save £31 - The 980 Pro is still one of the best value SSDs for gaming you'll find at the moment. While it usually sees a slightly higher price than its competitors, this is back down to its lowest-ever price on Amazon.
Buy it if:
✅ You want decent read and write speeds
✅ You want great value for money
Don't buy it if:
❌ You would rather have the newer 990 Pro

Save £27 - This is truly one of the best value SSDs for gaming out there, whether it's for PS5 or PC. In this deal, you're getting 2TB for cheaper than some brand new 1TB drives can cost with worse speeds than this. Just think about that for a second.
...Ok, second's up. Buy it if:
✅ You want 2TB for as cheap as they come
✅ You want underrated performance
Don't buy it if:
❌ You don't need 2TB - although the extra headroom is worth the little extra here.
Crucial X10 Pro 2TB | £229.99 £159.99 at Amazon
Save £70 - This is the lowest price ever for one of the best SSDs around. It's extremely portable, tough, features read/write speeds of up to 2,100MB/s and packs in 2TB and.
Buy it if:
✅ You want a small drive with loads of storage
✅ You want get a drive with some dust and water resistance
