BioShock Infinite ending is 'unique,' Levine says

BioShock Infinite's ending is unlike anything portrayed in a video game before, designer Ken Levine said. In an interview with Outside Xbox (via Eurogamer) the Irrational Games co-founder said he has is uncertain of how players will react.

“The end of the game, I can't tell whether people will like it or not like it," Levine said. "I can say it's something we're incredibly proud of. It's like nothing you've actually experienced in a video game before. It's unique and quite particular to this world, these characters and this franchise.”

The original BioShock had a significant twist at the end of its second act, though after the big reveal many felt it went downhill. Levine said the city of Columbia and its complicated relationship with mysterious co-star Elizabeth will keep players guessing long after Rapture began to peter out.

“You had a situation there where you had this amazing character and once he's gone the story loses some of its steam,” he said. “That is something we took to heart in this game.”

You'll have to play the game when it releases on March 26 to see the ending for yourself, but you can check out our 17 things you need to know about BioShock Infinite and learn more about its weird world until then.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
