Why you can trust 12DOVE
Given indie distributor Metro Tartan's recent output (The Idiots, Dobermann), you'd be forgiven for expecting Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss to be a bit of a controversy-baiter. But it's actually the opposite: a friendly, chirpy little film that just wants everyone to get along.
Trouble is, it's too nice and clean. It's a harmless enough tale of boy meets boy/boy falls for boy/boy finds out that boy doesn't like boys in the same way that boy does, but, aside from a few witty one-liners, there's little to sink your teeth into.
The stagey style makes it feel much longer than its 86 minutes and, while Sean P Hayes is likeable as lovelorn photographer Billy, this isn't enough to stop what should be a sparkling comedy from looking tarnished and tired.
