Big movie tie-ins for 2008
What Hollywood blockbusters will be getting the game treatment?
30 Nov, 2007
Most gamers recognise that movie tie-ins are generally an exercise in soul-crushing disappointment. But, optimistic fools that we are, since when has that recurring fact ever stopped gamers getting feverishly excited about reliving big-screen action for small-screen kicks? Never.
For the benefit of everyone that lives in hope of a blockbuster game based on a blockbuster movie, we've cast our eye over some of Hollywood's hottest properties for 2008 to see if there's anything that looks genuinely worthy of anticipatory hysteria...
Jumper | Feb 2008
What's it all about?
Teleporting. Based on the eponymous Steven Gould sci-fi novel and directed by Doug Liman (Bourne Identity), David Rice (Hayden Christensen) has the ability to teleport himself anywhere. But he's not alone and he's not the first. Rice becomes involved in a war fought for thousands of years between the Jumpers and the Paladins, a secret organisation that has Samuel L Jackson amongst its ranks. You can teleport to theJumper trailer here.
Is it getting gamed-up?
Yep. It's coming out February for PS2, Wii and Xbox 360 and it's being developed by new developer, Brash Entertainment.
Should you be excited?
We're pretty pumped about the movie, but while the promise of teleporting hijinks sounds good on paper, we're just not sure how effectively it will work in a game. Especially a game that's being made for three vastly different consoles (from a coding perspective) by an unproven developer. The early screenshots don't exactly inspire confidence either. We'll be pleasantly surprised if it manages to be anything above average.
