Ben Wheatleys A Field In England: first image

Sightseers may not even be in UK cinemas yet, but director Ben Wheatley has already completed shooting on his next, A Field In England , and has wasted no time revealing a first official image.

The moody black-and-white still suggests that, once again, Wheatley is going for a completely different tone, with perhaps the only outward link to his earlier films ( Down Terrace , Kill List , Sightseers ) being its twisted take on British values.

It’s a step back in time to the 17th Century, and the English Civil War. Judging by the image, revealed by a production blog on Film4.com , it seems they’ve got the Cavalier style down pat.

Field stars Julian Barratt, Michael Smiley and Reece Shearsmith, and follows a group of deserters who are roped into a treasure hunt. En route, the men end up eating some peculiarly intoxicating mushrooms.

Expect A Field In England to evade genre classification when it arrives in 2013.
