A fantastic new trailer has appeared online for The Program, Stephen Frears’ gripping account of the Lance Armstrong scandal, with Ben Foster taking the starring role as the disgraced champion cyclist. It’s a role the actor went above and beyond to get right, with the star revealing to The Guardian last week that he took the same performance-enhancing drugs as Armstrong did in order to get inside the man’s head…
“I don’t want to talk about the names of the drugs I took,” says Foster. “Even discussing it feels tricky because it isn’t something I’d recommend to fellow actors. These are very serious chemicals and they affect your body in real ways. For my own investigation it was important for me privately to understand it. And they work.”

If Foster’s preparation for the film was bordering on reckless, he seems to have Armstrong’s shark-like poise down perfectly, having captured the cyclist’s sinister drive for success to a tee. Directed by Frears and co-starring Chris O’Dowd, Jesse Plemons and Dustin Hoffman, The Program will open in the UK on October 16 2015, with a US date to be confirmed.
