Ben Affleck talks Argo

Argo , the latest effort from director/star Ben Affleck, has been going down a storm at the BFI London Film Festival .

In the current issue of Total Film magazine , which is available for just £1.99 on your iPad , we chat to Affleck about his based-on-fact thriller.

On the appeal of Argo , he told us,“I thought, ‘this is insane, it can’t be true.’ And then I went on the internet and looked it up and found out it really was true.

“I called [ Warner Bros ] up and said I had to do it and three months later we were prepping the film.”

On the movies that influenced and inspired the film, Affleck explained: “There was the CIA All The President’s Men tone at the beginning. Then there is the Hollywood satire thing in the middle, which was almost like a Cassavetes Killing Of A Chinese Bookie thing, and then there’s the Costa-Gavras grittier, punchier, grainier stuff for Iran.

“My challenge was to try to navigate those tones so that it didn’t feel like three short films but was one cohesive movie.”

Argo opens in the UK on 7 November 2012.
