Baz Luhrmann considering making Great Gatsby in 3D
Has workshopped the idea
Baz Luhrmann is considering jumping onto the 3D bandwagon with his big screen adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
According to The Hollywood Reporter , the Moulin Rouge! director has already workshopped with the format, though he has yet to make an official decision either way for his next film.
Luhrmann spoke will visiting Las Vegas alongside Michael Mann and Oliver Stone for a panel discussion on the advantages of Blu-ray.
Clearly the threesome have been chatting about 3D, though, as Stone warned that a movie shouldn’t attempt 3D unless it has the budget:
“Don’t shoot a 3D movie unless you can afford it, otherwise you are putting yourself under enormous pressure.”
Though we’d love to see Luhrmann’s take on 3D, is Gatsby the right project to try it with? Sure, he’d be able to effectively evoke the 1920s setting and really bring it to life, but we’re not convinced you need 3D for that.
