Free-to-play shooter scheduled to launch in Spring 2011
Earlier this week, the executive producer for the Battlefield franchise revealed plans to announce a new Battlefield title this Friday. Well, it’s Friday - and it turns out that the new title is Battlefield Play4Free, a free-to-play PC shooter scheduled to launch in Spring 2011.
Unlike its cartoony free-to-play predecessor Battlefield Heroes, Battlefield Play4Free looks much more like a traditional Battlefield title. "We broke new ground in 2009 with the launch of Battlefield Heroes; a game that has 6M registered players worldwide. Now we are complementing that arcade shooter with a core, realistic Battlefield shooter experience that fans have been clamouring for," says senior producer James Salt. "Battlefield Play4Free is for serious shooter fans who are looking for a premium – but free – experience that rivals top console titles."
