Battlefield 3 will require EA's Origin to play on PC
Origin membership required even if playing from DVD
PC Battlefield 3 fans will have nochoicebut to use Electronic Arts' Origin service if they wish to play the hugely anticipated sequel. Daniel Matros, EA's Global Battlefield community manager, confirmed todayvia Twitterthat PC players will be required to install and register with the newly launched digital distribution service to play, even if they own a physical copy.
%26ldquo;Yes those 'rumors' are true :),%26rdquo; wrote Matros in response to a fan's concern regarding the prerequisite, throwing smiley face etiquette to the wind.
Launched in June, Origin is the latest evolution of EA's Download Manager and EA Store, services which replaced EA Link in November 2006. Much like Valve's Steam, Origin allows PC and mobile players to test drive or download EA games, share gaming accomplishments with the world, andinteract with other Origin members. As it is a free service, EA's move shouldn't ruffle too many feathers except those who hate signing up for stuff or just EA in general.
Battlefield 3 will release for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 25th in North America, and October 28th in the UK.
