Batmobile goes boom in new Batman v Superman footage

With ten weeks to go until Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits cinemas – 25 March is the crucial date for your black-and-yellow/blue-and-red (delete as appropriate) diary – Warner has begun rolling out TV teasers promoting the whopping superhero face off. While they don't give masses away in terms of plot (this is a good thing), found within are a couple of new tidbits which tease how the conflict will play out, albeit without lending either man the upper hand.

The first is Bruce Wayne brushing off Clark Kent – in his guise as a Daily Planet news reporter, of course – when asked about a vigilante on the loose who considers himself above the law. “Don't believe everything you hear, son” deadpans Wayne in a nonplussed, I-could-kill-you-with-a-flip-of-my-cape manner. Mmm, quietly menacing Bruce. Our favourite kind.

If that spot earns Wayne a point in the oneupmanship stakes, Kent snatches it back during the second video tease. Here, Bruce's alter-ego attempts to ram Superman with the Batmobile, only for it to smash into a wall and go up in flames. “Do you bleed?” asks Bats after exiting the wreckage. “You will,” he continues as Supes takes off showing nary a hint of fear. Parts of this video have been revealed before, but this is the first time it's been meshed together and contextualised.

Evidently the plan is to let the rivalry simmer in the film's early parts, until unstoppable force meets immovable object in scenes which should prove spectacular. Don't expect there to be an outright victor, however: director Zack Snyder has confirmed that the pair eventually put their differences aside, teaming up with the entire Justice League in order to combat Lex Luthor and Doomsday.

Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Lawrence Fishburne, Diane Lane and Scoot McNairy, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016.

I'm GamesRadar's sports editor, and obsessed with NFL, WWE, MLB, AEW, and occasionally things that don't have a three-letter acronym – such as Chvrches, Bill Bryson, and Streets Of Rage 4. (All the Streets Of Rage games, actually.) Even after three decades I still have a soft spot for Euro Boss on the Amstrad CPC 464+.
