Batman Arkham Knights 33 Season Pass better be worth it

UPDATE: Warner Bros has now clarified Batman: Arkham Knight's season pass contents.

Holy online store wallets, Batman! Warner Bros has revealed that Batman Arkham Knight will have a season pass that can be bought separately from the game for a surprisingly hefty £32.99. Alternatively you can purchase the Batman Arkham Knight Premium Edition for £87.98 on consoles and £67.98 on PC which includes the full game and the season pass. Ouch.

Given that £32.99 isn’t exactly cheap for a DLC package, this had better be a serious chunk of extra gameplay from Rocksteady. Warner Bros has announced that the season pass will deliver “regular new content for six months post-launch including new story missions, additional super-villains invading Gotham City, legendary Batmobile skins, advanced challenge maps, alternative character skins, and new drivable race tracks.”

While it’s good to know that it won’t just be a stack of Batmobile skins it has to be said that at £33 this is almost the cost of the game again. New content is going to have to be significantly more than an extra 45 minutes or so of extra content and busywork.

The idea of new super-villains invading Gotham on top of extra story missions is an interesting concept but will these just appear as extra options on the map as new bosses or have some kind of separate storyline? Without story, these sound suspiciously like boss shaped challenge maps and busy work. Spotting the gaps in the current line up might be a way of seeing who we might be fighting later in the year but are these villains who have been held back specifically for DLC? Arkham Knight deserves far more than the monster DLC issues faced by Evolve.

Challenge maps and alternative character skins are to be expected, especially given the fact that we can now play as Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman with the new Dual Play feature. Plus, new drivable racetracks also likely means more of the underground drifting challenges that the Riddler has set up beneath the city.

Yes, there's a big list of content here but while Rocksteady has been dependable to deliver quality DLC such as Harley Quinn's Revenge, £33 is a big chunk of cash to ask for up front, especially with no clear indicator of what the Knight will bring.
