The BAFTA longlist is here – and could hint at Oscar frontrunners and snubs
Banshees of Inisherin and All Quiet on the Western Front lead the BAFTA longlist
The BAFTA 2023 Film Awards longlist has arrived – and it's a good indication of what the upcoming Oscar nominations could look like.
All Quiet on the Western Front is so far in the lead with 15 nods, including for both Best Film and Film Not in English Language, along with Director, Adapted Screenplay, Lead Actor for Felix Kammerer, and Supporting Actor for Albrecht Schuch.
The Banshees of Inisherin follows with 14 appearances on the longlist, including Best Film, Director (Martin McDonagh), Original Screenplay (McDonagh), Leading Actor for Colin Farrell, Supporting Actor for both Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan, and Supporting Actress for Kerry Condon.
Other Best Film candidates include Aftersun, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Top Gun: Maverick, while Leading Actress includes Ana de Armas (Blonde), Naomi Ackie (I Wanna Dance With Somebody), Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), and Viola Davis (The Woman King).
As for Leading Actor, Daniel Kaluuya (Nope), Tom Cruise (Top Gun: Maverick), Brendan Fraser (The Whale), and Paul Mescal (Aftersun) are included on the longlist. Angela Bassett has also been longlisted for Supporting Actress for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Ke Huy Quan is on the Supporting Actor longlist for Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Surprisingly, Avatar: The Way of Water has been shut out of the major categories, but has picked up acknowledgements for Sound, Production Design, and Special Visual Effects.
