Avengers: Infinity War to unite the Avengers with the Guardians of the Galaxy?

Ever since the massively successful Guardians of the Galaxy was released in 2014, fans have been pondering the possibility of Star Lord & co teaming up with the Avengers in a future Marvel film. Guardians' director James Gunn has not yet answered that question, but when Anthony and Joe Russo were quizzed by ComicBook.com on the possibility of the two teams of heroes uniting in the upcoming Infinity War films, their response was far from a denial.

"That is another one that we would have to reserve as a surprise, but we will say this: People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie", Joe Russo said. "The concept of Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honour that concept".

Much like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War promises to be a little grittier than the typical Marvel offering. That probably won't be the case when Infinity War comes round, but Russo reassured fans that he and his brother are up to the task: "We’re just going to approach the cosmic side with the same fervour that we did the earthbound work we’ve been doing".

"We also are going to work really hard to bring a psychological realism", Russo continued. "We obviously can’t bring a naturalism to it because it doesn’t really exist outside of science fiction, but we can bring that psychological realism to it, to the characters, and that’s going to be our focus".

Russo's comments have us putting a potential Avengers and Guardians team-up under 'very likely'; beyond being something that would certainly put butts in cinema seats, it makes logical sense to have the teams unite in a film that will be the culmination of everything the MCU has been building up to. We can't wait!

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 is due to arrive in UK cinemas on April 27, 2018 before opening in US theatres on May 4th, 2018.
