Avengers: Infinity War starts filming in November - and it includes Captain Marvel!

If its Thursday night numbers are anything to go by, Captain America: Civil War will score Marvel another massive hit at the box office. Critics love it, fans are diggin' it. As for its directors, the Russo brothers are no doubt taking a breather from the breakneck pace of shooting such a mammoth movie. Except, they're not. They aren't even considering a break to celebrate their success, diving straight into work on their next Marvel project - the two-part Infinity War.

"We already started them, a couple months ago," Joe Russo tells Deadline. "We had to. We start shooting in November, two movies back to back. So we need two scripts ASAP, and we probably started working on them six months ago."

"As soon as we got into post on this movie [Civil War], we gave ourselves a few weeks to transition and then we spent half days with the writers, and half in the edit room, for months," adds Anthony, referring to Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the two scribes who penned every Cap film so far before landing the Infinity War gig. "We’ll get the first draft of both scripts when this movie opens."

The two-part spectacular will see the Marvel Cinematic Universe turn a corner. At long last the Avengers - and the Guardians too, probably - will square off against the Mad Titan Thanos. He's the purple guy who keeps appearing in the end credits, grumpy because he's not acquired all of the Infinity Gems. It's going to be a massive undertaking, and the Russos are roping in practically every MCU character and introducing some new ones to help them do battle. Thanks to a little slip of the tongue, we know who one of those new superheroes is going to be. Here's the word from Comicbook.com

"During an event at the Smithsonian Institute, the Russos were speaking about the upcoming Infinity War, when they mentioned Captain Marvel by name. A fan quickly pounced, asking 'did you just confirm Captain Marvel'. Russo replied "Um....Captain Barvel. Totally different character.'"

Yeah... that's some pretty unconvincing backtracking. It's looking like Captain Marvel will finally make her MCU debut in the movie, ahead of her solo outing in 2019. Maybe we'll get that casting announcement teased by Marvel head Kevin Feige sooner than we thought.

Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan, Captain America: Civil War is out now. The first Infinity War opens on May 4, 2018 with the second due on May 3, 2019.
