The Avengers: Infinity War movies which will close the lid on Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could also be the perfect opportunity to swap out standing Avengers with new team members, according to Captain America: Civil War and Infinity War co-director Joe Russo.
"Everything is finite, right? Nothing can last forever. It’s cyclical. Some New Avengers in Phase Four are going to become prominent and then maybe some Avengers might not be around anymore," Russo said at Wizard World New Orleans Comic-Con. "We’re focusing on ... which characters can we pull to the forefront who potentially haven’t had their own ‘A’ story arc to this point. I think you’ll see that the supporting Avengers are going to become primary Avengers."
In Marvel comics continuity, The Avengers are a constantly-rotating team of superheroes and allies. The Avengers of the MCU, however, have yet to properly debut the new, post-Age of Ultron line-up (I'm gonna be a stickler and say a three-second shot of them assembling before Cap at the very end of the movie doesn't count). So the question is, when he talks about bringing new Avengers into focus, is Russo referring to the team glimpsed at the end of the last Avengers film, or are there more shakeups down the road?
