James Cameron’s Avatar picked up the awards for Best Motion Picture and Best Director at the Golden Globes this past weekend, beating Oscar hopefuls The Hurt Locker and Up In The Air. Pixar’s Up won Best Animated Movie.
"This is the best job in the world," Cameron said as Avatar was named best film. "What we do is make entertainment for a global audience."
He later added backstage: "Hopefully this is part of a trend. Science fiction is not a genre, but a form of legitimate drama."

Oh, and Avatar in number one at the North American box office again this week (for the fifth week) taking another $41.3 million and beating new opener Book Of Eli into second place ($31.6 million). Avatar has now taken $1.6 BILLION worldwide, and increasingly looks likely to topple the record set by Titanic. Question is, will that all translate into Best Movie and Best Director Oscars?
