Assassin's Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC hits January 13
Sepulchral spelunking
Arno Dorian is feeling a bit worse for the wear after his adventures in revolutionary Paris. Thankfully, he won't have to wait too much longer for a vacation, as Assassin's Creed Unity: Dead Kings will release on January 13. Granted, his DLC getaway largely takes place in cavernous catacombs filled with nefarious looters and deadly traps from The Ones Who Came Before but when you're an assassin you take what you can get.
Dead Kings was originally the cornerstone of Unity's Season Pass, but Ubisoft elected to give it away free as an apology for the game's troubled launch. Now that the game's had time to stabilize, it's the perfect time to dive back in and see what's new (and newly functional). Until then, check out the latest trailer for Dead Kings below, and be sure to click on for more details on upcoming downloadable goodies.
Assassins Creed Unity: Dead Kings is unbelievably dark
Dead Kings, set after the events of Unity, takes place primarily in a necropolis beneath Saint Denis. That's the famous (and famously sacked) burial place of the French royal family in 1794, and Arno can expect to encounter more than his fair share of aggressive grave robbers. "This is truly the darkest story we've ever told on the franchise," says Unity Creative Director Alex Amancio, and given that AC has featured entire families being wiped out and folks getting burned to death, that's a tall order.
Go 2D with a long lost friend in Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China
Fans have been asking for a 'Creed set in China pretty much since the series' inception, and while Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China isn't a full retail release, it's a good start. A sidescroller set in Imperial China, Chronicles stars Shao Jun, a Chinese disciple of Ezio Auditore who first appeared in the Assassin's Creed Embers short film. She returns to her home country as the last surviving member of the Chinese Assassin Brotherhood and is set on restoring her Order. Ubisoft hasn't said much about the nifty-looking sidescroller since it was announced in September 2014, but here's hoping we get to go stabbin' with Shao Jun soon.
