Aronofsky and Jolie for Serena?

Last week we heard that Angelina Jolie was heading over to work on sparse sci-fi flick Gravity , while burying any involvement with Wanted 2 .

Well, that news was rubbished by EW , who reported that Jolie “passed on doing Gravity at Warner Bros”. Instead, it sounds like Darren Aronofsky wants her for his next possible project, Serena .

Based on Ron Rash’s 2008 novel, the film would star Jolie in the titular role. The official book synopsis goes something like this:

The year is 1929, and newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton travel from Boston to the North Carolina mountains where they plan to create a timber empire.

Although George has already lived in the camp long enough to father an illegitimate child, Serena is new to the mountains — but she soon shows herself to be the equal of any man, overseeing crews, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving her husband’s life in the wilderness.

Together this lord and lady of the woodlands ruthlessly kill or vanquish all who fall out of favor. Yet when Serena learns that she will never bear a child, she sets out to murder the son George fathered without her.

Mother and child begin a struggle for their lives, and when Serena suspects George is protecting his illegitimate family, the Pembertons’ intense, passionate marriage starts to unravel as the story moves toward its shocking reckoning.

Scribe Christopher Kyle ( Alexander , The Weight Of Water ) has written an adaptation of the book, but his script apparently needs to go through a few more drafts before Jolie or Aronofsky will commit to the project.

Sounds like another meaty role for the actress to sink her teeth into (we'd still quite like to see Gravity happen), with many a website calling this Aronofsky's There Will Be Blood . Will Jolie finally sign on the dotted line, though? Watch this space.

Think this sounds more exciting than Gravity ?
