Arnie gives an update on The Legend Of Conan
Says filming could begin later this year
Arnold Schwarzenegger has offered an update on Universal's plans for The Legend Of Conan , which is heading into production some 30 years after his first outing in Conan The Barbarian (1982).
At a special Q&A following a screening of his latest movie The Last Stand , Arnie explained that Universal admitted 'the previous regime has missed the boat' and they wanted to produce a serious action movie with a top director and top writers:
"[ Universal ] finally came forward and said, 'You're absolutely right. The previous regime has missed the boat here. We want to pick it up. We're going to buy the rights and we're going to be serious about it and make a quality film with an A-director and with A-writers and so on. And we want you to participate in this. We want you to star and you to play Conan. We're going to take a story where Conan is at that age so it's totally believable and you're not looking like a 30-year old action guy.'"
Schwarzenegger is set to wield the 'Master's Sword' for the first time in 28 years following on from the 1984 sequel Conan The Destroyer , with a story following the barbarian at Arnie's current age . He suggests that the studio are working quickly on The Legend Of Conan and are planning to begin filming towards the end of 2013.

At the initial announcement, producer Frederik Malmberg said that the "original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior . This is a guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary. He knows he'll be going to Valhalla and wants to go out with a good battle".
