Matt Dillon slides gracefully into his ‘grizzled old bastard’ phase in this metal-thrashing chest-thumper about a motley crew of armored car security guards – including sad sack Dillon and a villainous Laurence Fishburne – who attempt a $42m bank heist, only to find their perfect plan quickly unravel into a series of deadly blunders.
Armored’s first half is an overwrought, eye-rolling bro-venture, but once the actual robbery takes place, the film ratchets up into a solid testosterone-soaked thriller with hairpin plot twists, a throbbing industro-hip hop soundtrack and enough blood and mayhem to please hardcore action audiences.
