Armored Core V Gamescom spot crowds the market on apocalyptic robot-shooters
Update to 12-year-old series proves giant robots will never go out of fashion
Yesterday we solicited your first impressions of Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor, From Software's gritty action title which puts players at the frontline of a war fought between giant battle-robots and their human pilots in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future. Today, for your consideration, is the Gamescom clip for Armored Core V, From Software's (completely unrelated) gritty action title which - see above.
Opinions on the Kinect title's clip were satisfyingly varied, from “unbelievably shitty” to “absolutely amazing.” This clip dials down the pathos from “mortifyingly melodramatic” to merely “embarrassingly melodramatic” and puts the focus on the Armored Core series' fast-paced third-person action. If you could only play one grim From Software battle-mech title for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Armored Core V is set for an early 2012 release, four years after the series' last installment – Armored Core 4 spinoff Armored Core: For Answer. Neither of those titles set the world alight: we gave both games a 6, which was pretty typical of critics' reception for the games (though of course our comments were far more insightful and our hair was better). Looking forward to giving the series another chance?
