Armie Hammer up for playing The Lone Ranger
Could play opposite Johnny Depp
The Social Network star Armie Hammer is currently in talks to join Johnny Depp in his film adaptation of The Lone Ranger.
Hammer is interested in playing the titular ranger, the same role that Ryan Gosling previously flirted with before he was forced to bail thanks to scheduling conflicts.
Depp has been attached to the film for some time, and will play Tonto, the Native American companion to the ranger.
Being directed by Gore Verbinski ( Pirates Of The Caribbean ), the film will reportedly use Tonto as an unreliable narrator – which should lead to all kinds of tall tales.
Though it’s a pity that we won’t get to see Depp and Gosling exchanging barbs, Hammer is a cool alternative, the actor having impressed in Social Network .
He’s also a name definitely on the rise, having grabbed a role in Tarsem Singh’s Snow White , as well as in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar .
