Kenneth (played by co-writer and director Adam Deacon) is a bit of a muppet.

Unsatisfied by his job at Laimsbury’s (geddit?), he dreams of building a street rep as a drug dealer and MC – except he’s rubbish at both. Deacon’s energetic performance helps sell this patchy combination of Kidulthood grit and US-style ghetto comedy.

But what really sets the film apart is its OK-to-be-ordinary message, eschewing the usual macho posturing. If hoodie horrors thrive on tabloid fears, then Anuvahood pulls down the hood to reveal a daft, unthreatening kid underneath.
