Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come to a close, which means we can all board the long hype train of Phase 3 that will eventually culminate in Avengers: Infinity Wars Part 1 and Part 2, due in theaters in May 2018 and May 2019, respectively. But don't stop to catch your breath yet, because Marvel has just informed the world there will be four new movies, including an Ant-Man sequel.
Forgoing the usual numbering scheme, the Ant-Man sequel will not be called Ant-Man 2, but rather "Ant-Man and The Wasp." So not only will the daughter of Hanky Pym (the original Ant-Man) show up in the sequel, but it'll be the first Marvel Studios film with a heroine's name in the title. It's currently slated for a July 6, 2018 release date, which pushes Black Panther to February 16, 2018 and Captain Marvel to March 8, 2019.
The remaining three films teased today won't appear until 2020, and Marvel has yet to reveal what they'll be. Interestingly, they're not referred to as part of a new "Phase 4" in the official announcement, so who knows what we'll see. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Doctor Strange 2: Shuma-Gorath Boogaloo? Squirrel Girl? Place your bets now!
