Another World/Out of This World to space out on iPads and iPhones
Classic '90s adventure to be ported for its 20th anniversary
iOS gamers will have another chance to explore Another World, the daringadventure gameperhaps better known as Out ofThis World in the US.Creator Éric Chahihas announced his otherworldly 1991 classic will make its way to iPads and iPhones care of French video game company DotEmu, and publisher BulkyPix.
“I’m very pleased to work with my developer friends from DotEmu and their partner BulkyPix,” said Chahi in a statement following the GDC announcement. “The first prototype looks beautiful on iPad, they are doing a great job on it.”
The release will mark the 20th anniversary of Another World. In its first decade, the game sold close to one million copies, and was followed in 1994 by a direct sequel for the Sega CD entitled Heart of the Alien. Since then, it has been ported to almost every platform imaginable, and has inspired Chahi's later works including Heart of Darkness for the original PlayStation. Gamasutra recently posted an in-depth,informative interviewwith Chahi, so if you're a fan, definitely give it a read.
"Another World is one of the most daring games ever created and we’re proud to be part of the team that will bring this terrific title to the iPhone and iPad platforms," said BulkyPix marketing director Vincent Dondaine.
Chahi has loose connections to the iOS port, but he is keeping busy working with Ubisoft on his next project, From Dust, slated to arrive on PSN, XBLA and Steam later this month. Check out the E3 trailer below:
