Another online Final Fantasy?
Final Fantasy XI producer quietly announces new role-player
Square Enix has confirmed that it's working on a new massively multiplayer online RPG for PS3 and PC via a comment from the producer of Final Fantasy XI, Hiromichi Tanaka.
"As we work on Final Fantasy XI, we're currently working on a new MMORPG targeting Windows Vista and PS3," Tanaka told Japanese game site Impress Watch recently. Furthermore, it's a game that Square Enix hopes to release worldwide.
That may sound a little strange, given that Square Enix has the clout and the rep to release its games wherever it wants, but Final Fantasy XI has had a rather muddled life - it never saw release on PS2 in Europe, took two years to reach the US and is now some four years old as it reaches Xbox 360.
Square Enix has some immense plans for unveiling a new title at E3 in May, and this could be it. Stay tuned...
