Angelina Jolie does triple duty for By The Sea: directing, writing and staring in the upcoming relationship drama, which also marks her 3rd time donning the director's cap. In the film, Jolie and Brad Pitt play an unhappily married couple who venture to an idyllic French resort and have a miserable time.
The more they interact with other couples the more the cracks start to show.
For a first trailer, it's more of a tonal tease than an attempt to offer insight into the plot. There's little narrative on display, but plenty of grim exchanges between the couple who are clearly having the worst vacation ever. The lush visuals hint at something macabre beneath the surface of their union, particularly in the trailer's final beats.
By The Sea opens in the US on November 13, and in the UK on December 11.
