After the huge success that was Rupert Wyatt's Planet Of The Apes reboot, the commissioning of a sequel was only a matter of time.

British director Wyatt's original contract came with the option to do another film, and he has stated that he intends to take that up.

Screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are also already onboard.

Now, it has been confirmed that motion-capture extraordinaire Andy Serkis is the first of the cast to have been rehired, reportedly for a healthy seven-figure sum.

His most famous roles to date have come in the form of motion-capture, the process of recording movement digitally and then computer generating the captured images.

Notable characters have included Gollum in The Lord Of The Rings series and Haddock in Steven Spielberg's recent The Adventures Of Tintin .

He is now set to reprise his role as rebellious super-ape Caesar from Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes , a part which some have claimed Serkis deserves an Oscar nomination for.

As of yet, neither James Franco nor Freida Pinto have been reacquired for the next instalment in the series.

Just be thankful that the coming film won't be another prequel - Rise Of The Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes doesn't have much of a ring to it.
