Anchorman 3 would see Ron Burgundy dealing with the Internet
Anchorman director Adam McKay is reconsidering a return to the world of mustachioed news reporter Ron Burgundy. McKay previously dismissed the idea of a third outing, before admitting that it would be fun - at some point in the future. While we're no closer to getting a definite yes, he's now opened up about the possibilities for Anchorman 3, which would find Ron dealing with the troublesome blogging community of the Internet.
"That was what we kind of talked about," McKay told Yahoo in a new interview to promote his upcoming movie, The Big Short. "We talked about doing one that was about the rise of the new media."
"I also thought there was something to the idea - and who knows, maybe we will do one some day - I also thought it’d be cool to have Ron Burgundy get embedded in the Iraq War," he explained. "We kicked around that idea. But we’ve never got that serious about it, but it would have to be the next stage of what the media has become."
Anchorman 2 witnessed the rise of the 24-hour news cycle, and charted Ron's subsequently batty response to it. So, this next sequel would be a natural progression reflecting real-life changes. "I think it’s the Internet", McKay added. "The only thing is by then Burgundy would be getting pretty old. So maybe it’s a movie we make in 10 years, when Will’s aged up and it actually makes sense that you can set it in 1997 or ’98." Watching Ron freaking out at a dial-up modem would be well worth the wait.
