Prime Day Meta Quest deals 2024: More offers arrive in October

The Prime Day Meta Quest deals are gearing up for another charge in 2024, as October's Big Deal Days event has now been confirmed. This Prime-exclusive event actually fell on the Meta Quest 3's launch day last year, and with a Meta Quest 3S heavily touted to launch before 2024 is out, it could be a very interesting deals season for Quest devices.

Prime Day gaming deals were pretty impressive this year, and although we didn't get the best VR deals imaginable, we did see a new low price for the Quest 3. The offer originally popped up at Walmart before Prime Day's official start time and then hopped over to Amazon. The $70 discount wasn't backed up by a PSVR 2 discount, disappointingly, but the 512GB Quest 3 did get a nice Neweg gift voucher bundle. Now, with October beckoning, the Quest 3 has even more competition in the form of a new HTC Vive headset, as well as the Pico 4 Ultra in the UK. No matter which direction you look, the best VR headset race is heating up.

Accessories were the real mainstays of July's Prime Day, and the biggest savings were found across charging docks and head straps. This will no doubt be the case in October too, but until the offers come in, we'll be keeping you up to date with everything you need to know below. We have our expectations for October, discussion about the Quest 3S, and even a list of July's best offers.

When will Prime Day Meta Quest deals begin?

October's Prime Day event is now confirmed, being dubbed Prime Big Deal Days. The sale will officially begin on October 8, and ending on October 9, but like always, we'd recommend that true bargain hunters keep their eye on the products they want from about a week or so before the official starting date. This is when we see sneaky deals breaking through the line, and with no one else shopping around yet, stock issues won't be an issue for you.

Do you need a membership for Prime Day Meta Quest deals?

Usually, Prime Day Meta Quest deals aren't Prime Exclusive, and competing retailers will usually run their own seasonal sales at the same time as Amazon. We did see some more accessory deals for the Quest 2 and 3 become Prime Exclusive, so if it's those you seek, you might want to think about a Prime membership.  If you play your cards right though, you could get around paying for it. Take out a free trial in the week or so before the event kicks off, get access to the benefits, and then cancel before you need to pay.

You don't even need to pay to take part in Prime Day Meta Quest 2 deals if you play your cards right. If you grab a free 30-day trial now, you'll be covered for Prime Day itself. Be sure to set a reminder, though, this will auto-renew into a full membership if you don't cancel it after the sale has passed.

Is there a new Meta Quest headset launching in 2024?

Rumors that a "lite" version of the Meta Quest 3 have been running wild in recent months, and if last year's Meta Quest 3 launch is anything to go by, October could be when we see the 3S arriving. A more affordable Quest device would certainly make sense since the Quest 2 has all but disappeared from shelves now.  Of course, there's been no confirmation that a Quest 3S is arriving, but there usually isn't this much smoke without fire.

What we expect from Prime Day Meta Quest deals in 2024

The Meta Quest 3 launched back just in time for October's Prime Day event last year, so October may just be a time for a one-year birthday celebration. As you can imagine, we'd like this to take the form of a discount or new bundle, but it all depends on what Meta has up its sleeve for this year. If there is to be a Quest 3S, and it launches in under a month, then there may not be a discount for the Quest 3 because the cheaper option will be drawing the focus away anyway.

If a potential Quest 3S doesn't arrive until after October's event, then we might be in with more luck for a Quest 3 discount. Of course, this is all conjecture, and we'll need to see what happens between now and then to know what to truly expect. Still, the Meta Quest 3 isn't the only VR headset on the market that will be worth a buy this October.

Before we discuss the competition, here's a closer look at the Quest 3's price, and what we'd ideally like to see it drop to this October.

Meta Quest 3

Meta Quest 3

MSRP: $499 / £479

Desired price: $449 / £449

Buy it if:

✅ You want the latest Meta Quest headset
✅ You'll make the most of that store credit

Don't buy it if:

❌ You want to play PC or PlayStation VR games

What about the competition?

We've seen PSVR 2 go on offer in the UK a few times now, but most discounts have been small, with only a £10 discrepancy here and there. The biggest discount we've seen in the US and UK was for Sony's Days of Play sale, where $100 / £100 came off the price tag for an extended period of time. A drop like that will most likely be saved for Black Friday, if anything. Then again, we saw PSVR 2 get a cheeky price drop last October on the Meta Quest 3's launch day. If there's a Quest 3S, maybe this could happen again.

PSVR 2

PSVR 2

MSRP: $549.99 / £529.99

Desired price: $449 / £429

We've just seen this prolonged discount over Days of Play, so we hope Prime Day will bring about a similar discount for PSVR 2 as its PC support draws closer.

✅ You want a better resolution and feature set than Quest 3
✅ You don’t mind tethering it to another platform

Don't buy it if:

There's also the Pico 4 Ultra to think about since that will be available when October comes around. To be honest, if you're thinking about buying a headset come Prime Day, and you want something that's actually more powerful than the Quest 3, The pre-order bundle for the Pico 4 Ultra rival gets you Blade & Sorcery Nomad, Infinite Inside, Get Fit VR, and Footpool. On top of that, you get a set of motion trackers for full-body immersion.

Then, there's the HTC Vive Focus Vision, which is newly announced. This will be available for pre-order in October as well, and although it's pricier, it should be on the radar of anyone who wants to play VR games on a high-end gaming PC. DisplayPort and a slew of other clever features is going to make it a big device to watch in 2024 and beyond. Of course, the HTC Vive Pro 2 shares its $999.99 / £999.99 price, but since it's effectively being replaced, I wonder whether it might see some dramatic price drops in October and November. That'll be one to watch too.

Either way, the Quest 3 has some competition this year, and if you're shopping for a VR headset, you have better options than ever before.

Ever since playing Journey at the age of 15, I’ve been desperate to cover video games for a living. After graduating from Edinburgh Napier University with a degree in Journalism, I contributed to the Scottish Games Network and completed an Editorial Internship over at Expert Reviews. Besides that, I’ve been managing my own YouTube channel and Podcast for the last 7 years. It’s been a long road, but all that experience somehow landed me a dream job covering gaming hardware. I’m a self-confessing PlayStation fanboy, but my experience covering the larger business and developer side of the whole industry has given me a strong knowledge of all platforms. When I’m not testing out every peripheral I can get my hands on, I’m probably either playing tennis or dissecting game design for an upcoming video essay. Now, I better stop myself here before I get talking about my favourite games like HUNT: Showdown, Dishonored, and Towerfall Ascension. Location: UK Remote
