Amazon Prime Day Kindle deals 2024: What to grab if you still want a deal

Prime Day Kindle deals are officially over and out for another calendar year. In all honesty, the number of Kindle devices on offer this time around was weaker than expected, but a few standout offers on the Scribe and Paperwhite were welcome. Sadly, discounts have now disappeared for the devices themselves. If you're up for grabbing an accessory or two, there are still some kicking about.

Amazon seldom drops the price of its flagship e-readers, but when it comes to Prime Day gaming deals and big seasonal sales, Kindles tend to lead the charge in terms of what gets discounted. That means special occasions like Prime Day, or October Big Deal Days really are the best opportunities to get yourself a Kindle. The regular Kindle from 2022 doesn't exactly break the bank with an MSRP of $99.99, but a discount here and there goes a long way, especially if you're attracted to one of the higher-end models that do demand a higher price.

We've listed the best deals you can still benefit from down below, and we've also been looking at some alternatives to Kindles this year in order to recommend other options. If you need to know more about the event, Prime memberships, or which Kindle models are which, we have that information for you as well.

Prime Day Kindle deals: FAQ

When will Prime Day Kindle deals end?

Prime Day Kindle deals are officially over and ran from October 8 to 9th. Amazon tends to be pretty strict about its timings for Prime Day deals, especially regarding its own products. However, if you're still looking for books or accessories, a few surviving deals remain.

Do you need a Prime membership for Prime Day Kindle deals?

Although a lot of Prime Day deals don't turn out to be Prime exclusive, any deals on Amazon Products like Fire TVs or Kindles are usually locked behind a Prime subscription paywall. Having said that, take a look at the trial below to try and skirt around paying for it.

Free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime

Free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime
You'll need a Prime membership in order to take advantage of most Kindle deals but don't fear. You can get a free 30-day trial starting today, cover yourself for the event, and then cancel before the payments kick in.

What to expect from Prime Day Kindle deals 2024?

When it comes to Prime Day, Amazon tends to lead the deals charge with its own products. That means Kindles, Ring doorbells, and all of its other gubbins tend to be guaranteed some offers during events like these.

Over the last few years, Amazon has launched a large range of Kindles that cater to different styles of readers. There are multiple models - from the standard Kindle, to the Paperwhite model, to Kids options, to the pricey Oasis and Scribe – but the good news is that they all saw various discounts during past Prime Day and "big deal days" events.

In July, the regular 2022 Kindle got a 15% discount, bringing it down to $10 higher than its lowest-ever price of $74.99. This wasn't bad for what is likely the most popular Kindle device, but we're still waiting for a new low price of $69.99. If there is a Prime Day event in October, hopefully, there will be a repeat of this deal, or an even more dramatic drop.

Perhaps the most impressive discount we saw in July's Prime Day sales was the Kindle Scribe, which dropped to an impressive low of $254.99. This was especially tempting for folks who wanted a digital notebook as well as an e-reader. It was also one of the first official Prime Day exclusive deals we spotted on the entire digital store - which goes to show how much of a spotlight Kindles get in these sales.

One thing to look out for is the Kindle daily deals since these get you pretty ridiculous prices on the E-reader books you have access to on Kindle devices. If you want to pick up some cheap books (for under a dollar) from some of the top authors out there, you can make use of Prime Day Kindle deals too.

Of course, there are plenty of Kindle accessories out there, and if you find the official Amazon ones a bit too pricey, there's no reason to give up your search. We found loads of third-party cases with some classy designs on offer in July. Whatever we find when the unconfirmed October event starts, we'll update this page.

Until then, take a look down below at some desired/expected prices for each Kindle model. While some of these are accurate to what we saw in previous sales, others are a more general ballpark figure we're hoping for.

What about the competition?

Kindles aren't the only E-reader tablets out there, and alternatives could offer you a better experience, depending on what you're looking for. Particularly if you're interested in the Kindle Scribe, the reMarkable is a solid option. There are some great alternatives to regular E-readers too, and they might save you some money.

reMarkable 2

reMarkable 2

The reMarkable 2 has just seen a new model release, so it's possible it gets a bit of a price shop when we reach deals season. This is actually a fairly simplistic device, but that's by design. If you struggle to keep focus, or you're mainly attracted to the Kindle Scribe for its notetaking and writing experience, then this fancy bit of tech might be a godsend to you.

Kobo Clara

Kobo Clara

The Kobo line of E-readers from Rakuten has long been one of Kindle's biggest competitors. The Clara offers similar features to the Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite, in that it's got a ComfortLight screen, touch display, and it's waterproof. It's found on sale fairly frequently, so it might be a good alternative for those on a tight budget.

For something a little more premium, we'd recommend staying abreast of all the latest Prime Day iPad deals updates as well. Or, we're also rounding up this year's Prime Day laptop deals and Prime Day TV deals as well.

Ever since playing Journey at the age of 15, I’ve been desperate to cover video games for a living. After graduating from Edinburgh Napier University with a degree in Journalism, I contributed to the Scottish Games Network and completed an Editorial Internship over at Expert Reviews. Besides that, I’ve been managing my own YouTube channel and Podcast for the last 7 years. It’s been a long road, but all that experience somehow landed me a dream job covering gaming hardware. I’m a self-confessing PlayStation fanboy, but my experience covering the larger business and developer side of the whole industry has given me a strong knowledge of all platforms. When I’m not testing out every peripheral I can get my hands on, I’m probably either playing tennis or dissecting game design for an upcoming video essay. Now, I better stop myself here before I get talking about my favourite games like HUNT: Showdown, Dishonored, and Towerfall Ascension. Location: UK Remote
