Spider-Man turns 60 this summer, having debuted in 1962, and Amazing Spider-Man #900 (AKA Amazing Spider-Man #6) will arrive just in time to mark the wall-crawler's sexegenarian anniversary by pitting Spidey against a villain who puts a new twist on his classic foes the Sinister Six - the Sinister Adaptoid.

Written by Zeb Wells with art from Ed McGuiness, Amazing Spider-Man #900 introduces the Sinister Adaptoid, a version of the classic power-copying android Avengers villain the Super-Adaptoid with all the powers of Spider-Man's enemies the Sinister Six, including Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven, Vulture, Sandman, and Mysterio.

But where does the Sinister Adaptoid come from? According to Marvel's announcement, it's created by "someone from Spider-Man's past" who captures the Sinister Six and uses them to create it.

Given the events of Amazing Spider-Man #93, could that "someone from Spider-Man's past" be Ben Reilly, now Peter's archenemy Chasm?

Tormenting Peter seems to be the direction Marvel is going with Chasm/Ben, and Ben has knowledge of who Peter's toughest foes are, has Peter's scientific acumen, and has both undefined superhuman abilities caused by the Beyond Corporation technology and potentially access to other Beyond tech as well.

"There's nothing I love more than a giant-size Spider-Man anniversary issue, and I'm pulling out all the - ah, what does it matter what I think," Zeb Wells says in the announcement.

"Ed McGuiness is drawing a super-sized Spider-story. Who isn't going to check this out???"

The special anniversary issue doubles as Amazing Spider-Man #6 in the upcoming new volume of the title.

"Zeb and Ed are trying to do the impossible - top Lee & Ditko's Amazing Spider-Man #1!" adds editor Nick Low. "And that's not the only thing that #900 has - including some shocks that are going to make you say WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!"

Amazing Spider-Man #6/#900 will feature covers from McGuiness as well as John Romita, Jr., who will launch the new volume of Amazing Spider-Man alongside Wells.

Variant covers will be illustrated by Romita Jr., McGuinness, Peach Momoko, Bengal, Ben Su, Mark Bagley, Humberto Ramos, Julian Totino Tedesco, Jim Cheung, Skottie Young, John Cassaday, Maria Wolf, and Taurin Clarke and can be seen in our gallery below:

Amazing Spider-Man #900 goes on sale June 22.
