Alien: Covenant wraps filming, reveals new image of Katherine Waterston looking very Ripley-esque
That's a wrap on Alien: Covenant. Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel/Alien prequel finished shooting today, and to celebrate the occasion 20th Century Fox released a new image from the set featuring Scott alongside leading lady Katherine Waterston.

Waterston plays Daniels, a member of the colony ship Covenant that sets out to explore a dark planet on the far side of the galaxy. Upon their arrival they learn that Michael Fassbender's android David is its only inhabitant - probably because he's used the humans at his disposal as hosts for xenomorphs.
It's true; those acid-blooded creatures are poised to return, and it wouldn't really be an Alien movie without the return of a kick-ass female protagonist. Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw is going to be back, but this is Waterston's show all the way. She looks brilliant in this pic, prepped for battle very much in the spirit of Sigourney Weaver's Ripley. The short hair, the white vest, the ease at which she's holding onto a massive weapon... the parallels are all there. Even though we got a teeny glimpse at her previously, this is our first clear look at the character and I for one am very excited to see her in action.
As for that caption - "The next phase begins" - I'm going to assume that means the next phase of marketing. Might Fox have cut together a teaser trailer for Comic-Con? *crosses fingers*
Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Demian Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez and Danny McBride, Alien: Covenant will open in the US and UK on August 4, 2017.
