Alien: Covenant set photo hails the return of Michael Fassbender's android

In the tradition of teasing us mercilessly with murky, behind-the-scenes images, the Alien: Covenant Twitter has dropped a new look at the sequel featuring a couple of familiar faces:

That's director Ridley Scott in the foreground, what appears to be new cast member Carmen Ejogo edging in on the right, and Michael Fassbender looking on intently in the background. It looks like Scott's prepping his cast and crew for a particular scene, giving them pointers and such for the day's filming. In that regard it's not a proper pic of Fassbender's returning character, the sneaky android David, but still offers a decent look at how he'll appear in the Prometheus follow-up.

Last time we saw David he was just a head in a bag. With Covenant set to take place ten years later it looks like the artificial human's done alright for himself - he's got a new body and a new haircut. But are his devious plans still buried within? I'm going to take a wild guess and say yes. Scott's already confirmed that every type of xenomorph is set to appear in the movie, and seeing as David's spent years alone tinkering around on the Engineers' planet it's not difficult to imagine how those acid-blooded monsters came into existence.

Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Demian Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez and Danny McBride, Alien: Covenant will open in the US on October 4, 2017 with a UK date still to be determined.
