Alan Rickman has Bottle Shock
The birth of the California wine industry
For the last couple of years, developing films about how California puts its wine industry on the map has seemed to become something of a hobby in Hollywood. We’ve reported on at least three.
Well, now one has actually decided to hit the screen. Bottle Shock, whole is based on the real-life ‘70s wine-tasting competition that saw California beat out European wine makers to snatch the top prize. And the film has bottled a cast in the form of Chris Pine, Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, Eliza Dushku and Rachel Taylor.
Pine plays the son of vineyard owner Pullman, who saves the decrepit business despite his father’s problems and ends up representing Napa in the competition, aided by Taylor as a student working with the vines. Dushku’s a local bartender and Rickman will feature as an English wine expert who runs L’Academie du Vin in Paris and organises the competition.
Director Randal M Miller will start shooting on 1 August in Napa.
