Activision dismisses iPhone and social games

Other developers may be rushing to the golden markets of Facebook and the Apple App Store, but not Activision. "We don't view the App Store as a really big opportunity for dedicated games," said company CEO Bobby Kotick at the Reuters Global Media Summit.

It'sgood news for competitor EA,which has beencreating App store versions of its AAA titles, as well as Gameloft, a company that has found App Store success by making handheld clones of console titles (including cloning Activision's Modern Warfarewith iPhone game Modern Combat.)

"It's a different question assessing it as a business opportunity. Right now we don't see an opportunity for us to participate in that market," Kotick continued. “The place where you have the opportunities for growth is within the communities of franchises we control."

He was not-so-indirectly referring to the big two money makers for Activision, Call of Duty and World of Warcraft (or Blizzard in general). Of course, these franchises aren't bullet-proof -just look at Guitar Hero.
