Aaron Sorkin’s found something to help dry his bitter tears after the wonderful TV series Studio 60 got sent for an early bath by US Network NBC.
Because DreamWorks has decided that they want to be in business with the writer, striking up a three-film deal with him that includes The Trial Of The Chicago 7. And the even better news? Steven Spielberg really wants to direct it.
Chicago 7’s drama hinges around the true-life trials of protestors who stormed the 1968 Democratic political convention in Chicago, with clashes between demonstrators and cops sent it staggering into the history books.
“The quality of Aaron’s work speaks to the kind of movies we want to make here at DreamWorks and we couldn’t be happier to have him in our filmmaker family,” enthused DreamWorks honcho Stacey Snider.
You might remember Sorkin from his beloved series The West Wing, or for writing A Few Good Men and The American President. Despite the failure of Studio 60, he’s been busy – his most recent script, adapted from George Crile’s book Charlie Wilson’s War, has just been shot by Mike Nichols with Tom Hanks in the lead.
