A Sesame Street movie is on the way
Shawn Levy will produce for Fox
Having seen the Muppets enjoy a successful return to the big screen earlier in the year, the Sesame Street gang look set to follow suit with the news that Fox have hired Shawn Levy to develop a movie version of the long-running kids' show.
Levy, who was last seen directing Real Steel , will join the project as producer, and will bring the inhabitants of Sesame Street to the silver screen for only the third time, after Follow That Bird and Adventures Of Elmo In Grouchland .
The film is the latest addition to a forthcoming roster of Jim Henson films that have sprung from the wake of The Muppets ' success. Unsuprisingly, one of those will be a Muppets sequel, while the critters of Fraggle Rock will also be making their way onto the big screen in the near future.
We'll be hoping that Bert and Ernie get plenty of screen time, alongside Oscar the Grouch, Elmo, and of course, the Cookie Monster. We were never that taken with Big Bird ourselves, but we'd imagine he'll be making an appearance as well.
No word as yet on when we can expect the film to arrive, but we'll be practicing our alphabet to make sure we're ready. Sunny day, sweeping those clouds awaaaaaay….
