A new Sonic game is on the way from home studio Sonic Team
Sonic the Hedgehog just turned 25 (the original game first came out on June 23, 1991), which is both a cause for celebration and a reminder that the last few years have been pretty weird for him. Between the willfully bizarre social media presence, Sonic Boom, and all the dating advice, you might not know where you stand with the speedy needlemouse anymore.
But it looks like normalcy will soon be restored, with Sonic Team teasing a new game to Famitsu Magazine (and translated by Sonic fan site SoaH City) at the end of an interview about the quarter centennial anniversary: "We at Sonic Team are developing a completely new game," Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka said, "as well as developing a full movie, actively done by Sony Pictures, and animation on Sonic Boom. We are also ready to improve sponsor ties."
The last new console game from Sonic Team that starred their eponymous mascot was Sonic Lost World, a Wii U exclusive back in 2013. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, another Wii U exclusive that came out in 2014, was principally developed by Big Red Button. But in fairness to BRB, Sonic Team has been responsible for many more Sonic stinkers: Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), to name a few. Sonic Colors was pretty good though.
"The most important thing is not the fact the series survived for 25 years, but how many games were developed," Iizuka added. "Our goal – add something new and overcome any potential hardships."

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
