8 times Bill Murray proved he's the best human being in the world

Bill Murray is a brilliant human being. I don't need to tell you that. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. But today is his 66th birthday so we're going to talk about it anyway. Let's skip the obvious (such as Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day) and go straight to the good/crazy stuff, like the fact that he turns up to strangers' house parties and does the dishes. Yes, really. Here's eight times Bill Murray proved he's the best human being in the world.

He refuses to have an agent, and instead makes directors call a mysterious 1-800 number to pitch him roles.

St. Vincent writer and director Theodore Melfi explained: "The nuts and bolts is (Murray) has no agent and manager, as everyone knows. You just call the 1-800 number. And I left, I don't know, a dozen messages. It's not his voice on there. It's a Skytel voicemail with a menu. You have to record the message and send the message. It's so confusing. I think if you can get through that and believe in it, he might call you back."

He joins complete strangers for karaoke...

Mike (pictured below) and his friends recognised Bill Murray in a karaoke bar and invited him to join them: “About 15 minutes later we get a knock on the door… IT'S BILL F@#KING MURRAY! We were all shocked of course but at that point we were already pretty trashed so the party just kept going. He was super nice and they all fit right in.

“At some point he bought us all a round of some weird green drink and wouldn't tell us what it was. I later found out it was Chartreuse, some French liqueur made by monks. Apparently you are supposed to sip it… like an idiot I just shot it down. The high point was when Bill and I sang a duet of an Elvis song called, Marie's the Name. Random I know, but so was the night.

“We were all drinking and dancing and screaming our asses off. We tried not to make him feel uncomfortable though of course later we all joked about picking the Ghostbusters theme. Amazingly, they stuck around the entire night, about 4 hours. As you can imagine it was all pretty surreal. Something I will never ever forget… Viva Bill Murray!”

And kickball.

Bill Murray also joined a kickball game being played by Chris DiLella and his friends. EW got the scoop on what happened:

Around 2 p.m., DiLella and his fellow kickballers were playing a game in a field on New York City’s Roosevelt Island. Murray “popped out of nowhere” and began interacting with the players. “He was bouncing the ball… ran over to second base. Played for a bit… Gave us all high-fives and let us pose with him in the picture,” DiLella explained over email. After the above photo was shot, Murray went over to one of the players’ moms – who was behind the camera – and “picked her up in his arms.” Soon after posing for a second shot, Murray left with “three young boys” – DiLella assumes they were Murray’s sons. Could be; Murray’s youngest kids, all boys, are 17, 15, and 11 years old.

He sent everyone Christmas cards of him wearing nothing but a neck scarf...

And he only drinks vodka out of large ice structures now...

The actor told Esquire about his epic Christmas parties: "It's a big magilla to get an ice luge, but if you do, you can pour vodka into it and it chills it on the way down. It looks like an Olympic ski jump. It's more for visual effect. You can put your head underneath it, like you're guzzling gasoline, but we just fill shot glasses. Hundreds of little shot glasses. So, we drank this stuff, and it took the party to a completely other level. The party lasted much longer. No one left. The year before, people would leave at, like, two or three in the morning. With the vodka luge, they didn't leave until five. The last two years I've had this luge. That's how I like to drink. Out of a large ice structure."

He'll slow walk with you to make you look cool.

That's what he did for David Walton Smith who was making an advert for the school one of Bill Murray’s children attends. Instead of asking the star for his autograph he got him to do this instead…

And he'll do the dishes at your house party.

After meeting student Lykke Stavnef in a bar in Scotland, Bill Murray and his friends turned up to her friend's house party . "Nobody could believe it when I arrived at the party with Bill Murray," the social anthropology student told The Telegraph. "It was really funny because he was pretty old compared with all the other people there, but he was so relaxed and it was really amusing when he started to wash up".

Finally, he'll give you the best advice ever at your bachelor party because that's the kind of guy he is.

EJ Rumpke's bachelor party was in full swing in a steakhouse when Bill Murray walked in and gave this speech:

Legend.
