8-bit Mario amiibo enters the third dimension on September 11
That freaky-cool 8-bit Mario amiibo will release alongside Super Mario Maker on September 11, on its own or as part of two special edition bundles. If you haven't seen it before, the figurine takes Mario's iconic sprite from Super Mario Bros. and blows it up into three-dimensions in a way that remains faithful to the original design and is only slightly terrifying (don't look into his huge, blank eyes).
The amiibo will be bundled with the Super Mario Maker Wii U Premium Pack, which also comes with a black Wii U Premium console, a physical copy of the game, and a hardcover art book. If you already own the system, you could grab the Super Mario Maker Limited Edition Pack, which comes with all the above except the Wii U. Note that these dates and bundles are only confirmed for the UK at the moment, though Super Mario Maker itself is definitely coming out on September 11 in the US, too.
If you prefer the modern flare of blue jeans and a red shirt over the old school red trousers and brown top combo, the 8-Bit Mario Modern Colors variant will go up for sale starting on October 23.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
