Microsoft is claiming that over 60% of all Xbox 360 owners are active on the Xbox Live service.
Xbox Live group marketing manager Aaron Greenberg was speaking to a US website when he made the claim, which comes just over a year after Microsoft set itself the target of having 50% of 360 owners online.
The figures include the use of the free Silver Xbox Live membership which allows gamers to post achievements but not play directly against one another; that requires the paid-subscription based Gold Membership.
The figures must be particularly pleasing for Microsoft, not only because it is exceeding its own expectations but also as it proves it has a firm foothold in online gaming - something that will no doubt help when Sony comes to launch its free online service for PlayStation 3 in November.
