50 unluckiest movie characters
They can't catch a break.
41. Douglas Fackler
As Seen In: Police Academy (1984)
The Bad Luck: Fackler is the kind of bad luck charm that a good police department could do without. Witness the way in which his casual tossing away of an apple core prompts a city-wide riot. Trouble just seems to follow him around…
Does It All Come Good In The End? He causes similar incidents of personal injury and general carnage throughout the series. Good for him!
40. Carlito Brigante
As Seen In: Carlito's Way (1993)
The Bad Luck: Having turned his back on the life of crime he never really wanted to return to in the first place, Carlito looks as if he's finally going to be able to move on and start a new life. Sadly, he's forgotten about one small loose end…
Does It All Come Good In The End? Benny Blanco pops up and spoils the party. Benny pissing Blanco. If only he'd had him killed earlier! Bad luck, old son.
39. Andy Stitzer
As Seen In: The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)
The Bad Luck: To still be a virgin at 40, one has to have endured a fair amount of bad luck along the way. In addition to the bedroom mishaps we see in flashback, the women that Andy seems attracted to almost always turn out to be nutcases. Elizabeth Banks and Leslie Mann are two such cases in point…
Does It All Come Good In The End? Yes. He ends up hitched to lovely Catherine Keener who finally pops his cherry.
38. Dante Hicks
As Seen In: Clerks (1994)
The Bad Luck: Getting called into work on your only day off is pretty bad, but Dante ends up manning the tills on the day that every weirdo in New Jersey seems to have decided to head to the Quick Stop. As he keeps saying, "I'm not even supposed to be here today!"
Does It All Come Good In The End? The day ends, which is about as good as Dante could have hoped for. It's an upgrade on the original ending in any case. That one had him shot dead by an armed robber!
37. Dora Lynn Tisdale
As Seen In: Get Over It (2001)
The Bad Luck: A walking disaster area, Dora Lynn is bad news. As one character puts it, "wherever she goes, bad shit happens… I mean, weird bad shit happens." Her performance on a date with Ben Foster, in which she basically brings a restaurant to its knees, is a case in point.
Does It All Come Good In The End? Put it this way, there's no second date...
36. Michael Faraday
As Seen In: Arlington Road (1999)
The Bad Luck: Faraday does his level best to thwart terrorist Oliver Lang in his attempts to blow up a federal building. Unfortunately, in doing so he inadvertently manages to ensure the bomber's plan comes to pass. Gaaaaah!
Does It All Come Good In The End? Not quite. Instead, Faraday drives the bomb to its intended target, gets blown up in the process and is posthumously labelled a terrorist himself. Ouch.
35. Hudson
As Seen In: Aliens (1986)
The Bad Luck: As Hudson is fond of pointing out to anyone who will listen, he only had a short spell left before packing in the space exploration lark for good. "Aww man," he complains. "I was getting short, too! Four more weeks and out. Now I'm gonna buy it on this rock."
Does It All Come Good In The End? He buys it on that rock.

34. Carrie White
As Seen In: Carrie (1976)
The Bad Luck: Being picked on at high school is pretty rough. Having your period in the middle of PE is pretty unlucky. Being stuck at home with a religious nutcase is unfortunate. But having to cope with all that as well as burgeoning telekinetic powers? Well that just takes the cake…
Does It All Come Good In The End? Just as it's looking up for Carrie, it turns out that her Prom Queen status was just a cruel trick. And it's pretty much downhill from there.
33. David Kessler
As Seen In: An American Werewolf In London (1981)
The Bad Luck: Kessler isn't cursed. He doesn't come from a long line of werewolves. He hasn't been experimenting with werewolves, only to have one bite him. All he's done is come away on a backpacking holiday, and gone for a walk on a moor on the very night a werewolf was about. Unlucky in the extreme.
Does It All Come Good In The End? He ends up shot dead by the police. That said, he does squeeze in time for a bunk up with Jenny Agutter, so it's not all bad news.
32. Tommy Williams
As Seen In: The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The Bad Luck: All Tommy wants to do is pick up a bit of education during his time inside, but inadvertently, he finds himself embroiled in the Warden's money-laundering scam, thanks to his knowledge of Andy Dufresne's innocence. His chances of keeping his head down are therefore greatly reduced.
Does It All Come Good In The End? He gets a bullet in the head, courtesy of the Warden. Tommy wouldn't even have been aware the man was a crook...
George was once GamesRadar's resident movie news person, based out of London. He understands that all men must die, but he'd rather not think about it. But now he's working at Stylist Magazine.
