50 Tarantino Films Tarantino Didn't Direct
The sincerest form of flattery
Swingers (1996)
The Film: Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau shoot the shit and pick up chicks in this seminal guy's-perspective rom-com.
Tarantino-Esque Elements: It's a very talky film, with an eminently quotable script, and there's even a direct homage to the slow-motion walking scene from Reservoir Dogs .
Mr Purple Or Mr Pink: It takes a few cues from Tarantino, but you could never accuse it of being a rip-off.
Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
The Film: John Cusack stars as a depressed hitman whose latest job takes him on a trip down memory lane to his high-school reunion.
Tarantino-Esque Elements: The depressed hitman angle is very Tarantino, as is the outdated but cool soundtrack. Throw in extreme violence with a slight comic edge, and there are several parallels to be drawn with Tarantino's work.
Mr Purple Or Mr Pink: Less a knock-off than a film that picks up on the '90s zeitgeist for witty, self-aware crime films.

Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels (1998)
The Film: Guy Ritchie's knockabout cockney caper about a bunch of likely lads and a rather expensive gambling debt.
Tarantino-Esque Elements: Interweaving storylines, uber-cool soundtrack, banter between gangsters and many, many shootouts… its an East End love letter to QT.
Mr Purple Or Mr Pink: Probably the best British attempt at a Tarantino flick, with likeable characters, a whip-smart script and the soundtrack to match.
