50 Darkest Disney Moments

The Games

The Movie: TRON (1982)

The Dark Moment: Flynn discovers the brutal truth behind the MCP's dictatorship when he finds that ENCOM programs resistant to its rule are forced to play in gladiator-style battles in which the losers are destroyed.

If It Had A Song:
"I thought this would be safe / But I'm becoming a bit distressed / If I don't escape this digital world / I'm going to be derezzed!"

Meh, Daft Punk could probably do better.

Meg Dies

The Movie: Hercules (1997)

The Dark Moment:
Meg heroically sacrifices herself to save Hercules from a falling pillar, damning her soul to Hades.

If It Had A Song:
"I thought my heart had learned its lesson / But I'm just like all the other ladies / Like a fool I sacrificed myself for love / And now I'm going to Hades."

The Ghost Army

The Movie: Bedknobs And Broomsticks (1971)

The Dark Moment: As Nazis invade Pepperinge Eye, Jessica Fletcher raises an army of dead medieval knights, Elizabethan Guards, Cavaliers, Redcoats, and Highlanders who chant as they march to battle the Germans.

If It Had A Song:
"Treguna Mekoides and Tracorum Satis Dee / Nothing you've ever seen is as creepy as we / A ghost army, fighting Nazis, how can this be? / Just what on Earth were you thinking, Mr Disney?

Maleficient's Curse

The Movie: Sleeping Beauty (1959)

The Dark Moment: Offended at the lack of a christening invitation, wicked fairy Maleficent curses the princess Aurora to die on her 16th birthday.

If It Had A Song: "Stand back, you fools! / You think you can harm me? / I'm Maleficent the magnificent! / I'll have my revenge on your sleeping beauty."

Sarah's Song

The Movie: Hocus Pocus (1993)

The Dark Moment:
The youngest Sanderson sister flies over Salem, singing a siren-like song to lure the town's children to the witches' cottage for a bit of life force-absorbing fun. Like when ice cream vans play Greensleeves, but more scary and with death instead of refreshing treats.

If It Had A Song:
An honest one? It'd probably go something like...

"Come little children / I'll tell you my goal / Come to my house / And I'll suck out your soul."

The Dog Pound Song

The Movie: Lady And The Tramp (1955)

The Dark Moment:
Trapped in the pound, Lady listens as the other homeless, unloved dogs sing their mournful tune.

If It Had A Song:
"Woof woof Wooooo! Woof woof woooo! / Ruff ruff raowwww! Ruff ruff raooowwww!"

What? Dogs don't speak real words, it was the best we could do.

Cruella Goes Crazy

The Movie: 101 Dalmatians (1961)

The Dark Moment: Having lost the puppies she was planning to skin, Cruella chases her quarry in a maniacal, pale-faced, whirly-eyed rage.

If It Had A Song: A song? The woman has her own theme tune!

"The curl of her lips, the ice in her stare / All innocent children had better beware / She's like a spider waiting / For the kill / Look out for Cruella de Vil."

Wall-E Loses His Memory

The Movie: Wall-E (2008)

The Dark Moment: Eve succesfully repairs Wall-E after the battle with Auto but when he wakes, he no longer recognises his love and reverts to his programming as an unfeeling waste compactor... Until she gives him a kiss, that is.

If It Had A Song: "It only takes a moment / For your eyes to meet and then / Your heart knows in a moment / You will never be alone again."

Yeah, we stole that from the soundtrack, but isn't it sweet?

The Stepsisters

The Movie: Cinderella (1950)

The Dark Moment:
After being abused for her entire life, Cinderella's one night of hope is destroyed by her jealous stepsisters when they rip her gown apart.

If It Had A Song: "The mice turned into horsemen / And the pumpkin turned into a carriage / Thanks to Cindy's Fairy Godmother / She had a very good marriage!"

The Mad Hatter

The Movie: Alice In Wonderland (2010)

The Dark Moment: We get a glimpse at the dark, Glaswegian, side of the Hatter's personality as he tells the story of the Jabberwocky.

If It Had A Song: No jaunty tune necessary here, the poem will do just fine...

"Twas brillig, and the slithy toves / Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: / All mimsy were the borogoves / And the mome raths outgrabe."

No, we haven't got a clue either.
