Invites claiming to provide access to a Halo 4 beta have started appearing in the Xbox 360 community. The only problem is there is no such thing as a Halo 4 beta. Not yet, anyways. Instead, the invites have been revealed to be a phishing scam meant to pilfer personal information from Halo fans who didn't stop to wonder just how the crap they were invited to a Halo 4 beta that has yet to be announced by anyone, anywhere, ever.
In an effort to save its consumers from identity theft, 343 Industries' David Ellie took to Twitter, telling followers: “If you see a page claiming to allow you to sign up for a Halo 4 beta be advised, IT'S A FAKE.”
Remember kids: if it looks to good to be true, it probably is. That, or it's going to land you in casino jail with no cameras and a guy named “The Cleaner”. Still, while Microsoft has yet to officially announce a Halo 4 beta (and trust us, they will), you can get your Halo 4 fix by driving its Warthog in Forza 4, or by boning up on your Reclaimer knowledge with the Halo 4 information from last year's Halo Fest.
Oh, and if you fell for the phishing scam we do apologize for being so glib. To make it up, we'd like to loop you in on a chance to earn $150 million just by helping us transfer an inheritance from our deceased uncle in Turkmenistan...
