Ledger’s performance as Ennis Del Mar in Brokeback Mountain was a breathtakingly nuanced performance of repression and anger, but arguably, was the natural progression from his earlier work. He’s still a hunky lead after all, albeit a sexually confused one. Casting him as the Joker however…now that’s what we call thinking outside the box.
