10 of the best spaces in PlayStation Home

If, for some reason, you’ve never heard of Home, it’s a virtual community that any PS3 owner with an internet connection can join for free. You are represented as an avatar that you can customize, from facial features to clothing, and you have your own special apartment that you can lure other users back to. When Home first came out, we briefly dabbled in its mostly empty, sterile environment, but it looks like things have developed since then. Check out ten of the coolest places to visit in Home.

The WipEout museum

This is the newest and most visually impressive space in Home. With a vast futuristic cityscape looming in the background, you can view classic WipEout ship models and listen to pounding house beats courtesy of this slightly terrifying robotic DJ. It’s one of Home’s biggest spaces too, and always incredibly busy.

ModNation race track

The centerpiece of this huge mountain-flanked arena is a ModNation themed race course. When you get closer, you realize that it’s lined with hundreds of cardboard cut-outs of customized Mod characters. These are part of an interactive memory game, the reward for which is a statue for your Home apartment. This space will only be available for a limited period of time, so check it out while you still can.

MotorStorm carrier

The story behind this converted aircraft carrier is that an ‘anonymous rock star’ bought it and turned it into a floating party boat. It has a huge dance floor, a set of DJ decks that let you change whatever track is playing (all from the MotorStorm soundtrack) and a blinding laser show. There’s also an impressive vista of the MotorStorm fleet surrounding the island where the second game is set, with volcanos erupting in the background and choppers flying past. Good for photo ops.

Abstergo lab

Fans of Assassin’s Creed will recognize this place. It’s where Desmond was first thrust into the memories of his ancestor Altair. The whole lab has been recreated, from Desmond’s quarters (with working shower), to the Animus machine itself. Most people come here to play the tower defense game, which is built into a glass floor in the back room. You can interact with most of the computers in here, which unlocks apartment rewards. There’s a glyph puzzle too, but the answer is randomized…

The LBP playground

As you’d expect from Media Molecule’s incredibly talented art team, this is one of the most striking-looking spaces in Home. The most notable feature is the wallpaper creator. Here you can make your own XMB background by moving around stickers and shapes. Max out your sticker limit and save your creation to unlock a nice Sackboy statue for your apartment.
